 Bangladesh Betar (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ বেতার) or BB is the national public broadcaster of Bangladesh. It was also known as Radio Bangladesh between 1975 and 1996. 

It played an important role during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. On March 26, 1971, the broadcasting center of Radio Pakistan was used to transmit a declaration of independence, which was picked up by a Japanese ship in the Chittagong Harbor and re-transmitted. During the war, the Pakistan Army took over the Radio Station in Dhaka and the Bangladeshi operated Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra (Independent Bengal Radio Station) 
clandestinely. Because of heavy shelling, the station had to be relocated several times, and ultimately moved to Calcutta on May 25, from where it would broadcast until the end of the war. On December 6, it was renamed Bangladesh Betar. Its current headquarters were completed in 1983 at National Broadcasting House, Agargaon

বাংলাদেশ বেতার সম্পর্কে কিছু কথা


ধ্বনি বিস্তার কেন্দ্র নামে এদেশে সর্বপ্রথম স্বল্প পরিসরে বেতারের কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়। মূলত ১৯৩৯ সালের ১৬ই ডিসেম্বর নাজিমুদ্দীন রোডের ভাড়া করা বাড়িতে ‘অল ইন্ডিয়া রেডিও’ নামে বেতারের সম্প্রচার কার্যক্রম শুরু হয়। পরবর্তীতে ১৯৬০ সালে শাহবাগস্থ কেন্দ্রে বেতার সম্প্রচার কেন্দ্র স্থানান্তরিত হয়। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সময় ‘স্বাধীন বাংলা বেতার কেন্দ্র’ হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশের মধ্য দিয়ে এই কেন্দ্র আমাদের মহান মুক্তিসংগ্রামে অনন্য ভূমিকা পালন করে। ৩০ শে জুলাই, ১৯৮৩ সালে শাহবাগস্থ সম্প্রচার কেন্দ্রটি জাতীয় বেতার ভবন, শেরেবাংলা নগর, আগারগাঁওয়ে স্থানান্তরিত হয়।
